What are the DORA Metrics?

The DevOps Research and Assessment (DORA) group released their state of devOps report, which provides insights from more than six years of study. It identified four indicators to measure DevOps performance, also known as DORA metrics:

  1. The frequency of deployment
  2. The time to change the date
  3. Change failure rate
  4. Time to recuperate

Four DORA metrics

DORA Group research found that the most effective DevOps Teams are ones that focus on the following parameters:

1. Frequency of Deployment

This measurement refers to the frequency at which an organization is able to deploy code to production or customers. Successful teams deploy on demand typically multiple times per day, whereas less successful teams deploy every month or perhaps every few months.

This metric emphasizes the importance for continuous innovation, and means the number of times that deployments are made. Teams should try at deploying on-demand in order to provide constant feedback and to deliver more value to the end-users.

2. Change Lead Time

This metric is a measure of the duration it takes for an application to come back from a loss. All DevOps teams, regardless of how efficient, unexpected outages or incidents can occur. Because failures will happen and unpredictable, the time required to fix an application or system is crucial to DevOps performance.

Change Lead Time
